Things to Consider
Providing a safe and secure home for a special needs animal
can be one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do. However, there are some important things to consider before
making such a commitment.
We recommend that you
see your vet twice a year for "wellness care" and pay careful attention to your cat's health and behavior.
Health care costs will probably be higher over a special needs cat's lifetime. We also recommend that FIV and FeLV cats always be kept indoors to prevent them from spreading
the infection to other cats in the neighborhood. Finally, you may need an extra measure of strength,
patience, or understanding when new health challenges arise.
Having said all that, it is also true that there are no guarantees, even
with a "normal" cat. You never know what kind of health issues one of your pets may develop in the future.
It's just that with a special needs kitty, you know in advance that there will
be issues! It takes a special person to provide a "forever home" for a special needs animal. We think
there's someone out there for every one of our witty kitties, and we'll keep looking until we find you!
