Oscar developed congestive heart failure and quickly went downhill -- we helped this very special boy over the rainbow bridge on 10/28/14.

Biography:         Oscar was rescued by a wonderful woman in Iowa City about four years ago.  She decided to keep him, even though he tested positive for FIV, since he was not aggressive and was unlikely to bite her other cats (which is the only way he could have transmitted the virus to them).  Helen is now in Hospice care, and is ensuring that all her pets will be cared for in the future by finding new homes for them now.  After a few months on our waiting list, we finally had an opening for Oscar when Knight was adopted.  Oscar was very scared at first, and we worried about his transition to a shelter environment after living in a regular home for so long.  However, less than a week later, he is hanging out with his buddies in Room 4, exploring the outdoor enclosure, letting us hold him and hug him, and having fun with camera straps (watch his video!).  As you can imagine, it was very difficult for Helen to say good-bye -- Oscar slept with her every night.  Helen's selflessness is inspiring -- she just wanted to be sure that Oscar would be taken care of after she's gone.  Hopefully we can find him a new home really soon!
