Astaire (as in Fred)     pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif

Astaire had been losing weight but otherwise behaved like his normal self, until just a couple days befoe he died in his sleep on 9/4/19.  The likely cause of death was throat cancer.  We'll miss his mood swings and watching him play outside with his pals.

Biography:         Astaire is originally from C&W Rustic Hollow Shelter in Nashua, Iowa.  He had lots of trouble getting along with the other cats there, and even with some of the people.  They called him White Paws, but wanted us to think of a new name for him.  Since his feet were the focus of his first name, we came up with Astaire.  We kept him in the infirmary for the first few weeks all by himself.  Gradually we'd let him into the main room with the other cats, but only when we were there.  There were a few touchy moments at the beginning, but nothing major.  After another couple weeks, we took the plunge and left Astaire in the main room overnight.  Surprise, surprise!  No sign of any fighting the next day, and he's been a main room kitty ever since.  He'd probably do best in a home without other cats, but we seem to have provided him with enough space so that he manages to coexist with the others.  Astaire can become easily overstimulated, so easy does it on the petting.  But let him call the shots, and Astaire will do just fine!
