Big Guy     pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif   pawprints5.gif

Sponsored by Darrell & Judy Akers, Marion, IA (03/09 - 06/09)
Big Guy recovered well from surgery, but lost his appetite in May, became extremely anemic, and had virtualy no white blood cells left when we said goodbye on 06/04/09.  He was greatly loved by his rescuer and foster mom, Judy, who cared for him the last week of his life.

Biography:        When a stray cat appeared in the neighborhood, Judy Akers, aka the "Marion cat lady," knew she had to rescue him.  After trapping him and then gaining his trust, she was finally able to take him to the vet and found out he tested positive for feline leukemia.  Judy fostered him (in her laundry room!) for another month, waiting to re-test him.  The second test was positive also, so he came to Witty Kitties.  Shortly after he arrived, we noticed he was having trouble peeing.  When Dr. Jenni palpated a mass and then performed surgery, she discovered "a large necrotic area of fat and omentum adhered to an abscess attached to his bladder."  Wow!  Although he has lost a little weight, he appears completely recovered less than a month later.  He may not exactly fit his name right now, but he's eating well and we expect he'll be a "big guy" again soon enough.
