Biography: Susie Q was rescued by Mike and Sue Moses, of Cedar Rapids. When they first saw her, it was clear to them that she had some sort of injury to her left rear leg, but she was still managing to hobble around. By the time they brought her to Witty Kitties a few days later, she was barely moving, and had miscarried a litter of kittens the night before. On initial exam, it was clear that her one rear paw was so badly mangled and infected (twisted around 180 degrees) that it would need to be removed. Jenni did that immediately, then waited for her to recover a little strength before amputating her entire leg, which would have been useless to her even without amputation. Susie Q's injury also did some nerve damage such that she was not able to urinate on her own when she first arrived. However, time worked its wonders, and now Susie Q is a perfectly normal three-legged cat!! She's still a little shy, but moving around is no problem at all. We continue to work on socializing her -- she's okay being petted, but so far doesn't like to be held. A quiet, calm environment with lots of TLC would do wonders.
