Biography:        South Paw was a stray who had trouble walking.  In fact, when his rescuer first saw him walking across her porch, she went out to get a better look.  South Paw ran away from her but couldn't negotiate the steps, and fell down the stairs.  She was able to catch him and bring him to a spay/neuter clinic at the Iowa Humane Alliance in Cedar Rapids.  He had suffered two broken front legs in the past, both of which had healed badly.  Jenni determined that his right front leg was essentially useless and would have to be amputated -- thus, his name -- South Paw!  He is very leary of people, in spite of all of our efforts at socializing.  South Paw loved to spend time outdoors over the summer, and seems to have adjusted to his three-legged stance with no problems.  We're hoping that as winter approaches he will spend more time inside with us, and get to know the benefits of a warm lap!
